Patented pulsation damping plate

  • to reduce sound in the fluid and gas pulsations
  • for high pressure and mass flow
  • for all common gases due to variety of materials

Development and experience

Each pulsation damping plate follows the same patented principle developed by our engineers. The final design is always customized to meet each customer’s specific requirements.

Development:

The idea of the pulsation damping plate came up in the context of a specific customer project. A component was to be developed that effectively reduces media noise, generates little pressure loss, contains no absorption material and is easy to install. With scientific support, the “pulsation damping plate based on the KÖTTER principle” was optimized for numerous successful applications.

Range of application:

The pulsation damping plate is used in piping systems in which gases are compressed and transported, regardless of the type of machine used. Plant operators, plant manufacturers, and manufacturers of compressors, coolers, heat exchangers, and silencers therefore also use individually designed pulsation damper plates to protect these units in new plants. A wide range of experience is also available from applications with screw compressors and reciprocating compressors of gas suppliers and refineries. Here, the focus is on reducing pulsation-induced pipeline vibrations and on achieving correct gas volume measurements. Pulsation damping plates are also used to reduce burner vibrations in power plants and in the exhaust gas duct of large combustion engines. An additional application is the pulsation damping plate in combination with a transverse mode breaker.

Design and calculation:

Due to the widely varying operating conditions, the pulsation damping plate is always designed individually. Various parameters, related to the compressor, the medium and the piping conditions, are required for dimensioning. In existing plants, the required data on gas dynamics are almost without exception obtained by metrological investigations.

Technology:

  • orifice plate
  • flow optimized bores
  • installation in existing pipelines
  • installation between two flanges
  • flange connection of any nominal width
  • low installation depth
  • material selection as desired
  • suitable for all common gases

Effect:

  • up to 95 % pulsation damping
  • reduction of sound emission
  • reflection inside the pipe
  • broadband spectral effect
  • utilization of boundary layer effects
  • interruption of longitudinal waves
  • breaking of transverse modes
  • flow rectification

Advantages:

  • reduction of fluid noise and gas pulsations
  • compact, low-cost component
  • no pressure vessel required
  • long service life
  • usually no piping changes
  • minimal pressure loss
  • easy installation also for retrofitting
  • for high pressure and mass flow
  • individual design and adjustment
