Building physics & immission control

Acoustic solutions for technology and buildings

Building physics and environmental noise control are critical factors in the planning, operation, and expansion of industrial facilities. KÖTTER Consulting Engineers supports plant operators, design professionals, and regulatory authorities in assessing noise and vibration impacts and ensuring regulatory compliance in accordance with applicable standards.

The Building Physics and Environmental Noise Control division provides noise measurement and assessment in accordance with the German TA Lärm guidelines, vibration analysis and structural dynamics investigations, and building physics evaluations as part of permitting and approval processes. Our goal is to align technical requirements and regulatory obligations while ensuring reliable, conflict-free plant operation.

Noise measurement, sound emissions & approval procedures

Noise immission forecast and noise reduction

Noise immissions from industrial and energy facilities play a key role in environmental noise control and permitting procedures. KÖTTER Consulting Engineers conducts on site noise measurements at industrial plants and buildings and evaluates the results in accordance with TA Lärm, the 16th and 18th Ordinances under the Federal Immission Control Act, and other applicable regulations. Relevant receptor locations, various operating scenarios, as well as time dependent and frequency dependent effects are taken into account.

Baseline assessments and permitting procedures

Today, noise measurements are a critical component of permitting, feasibility studies, and preliminary construction applications. In commercial and industrial settings, authorities often require noise contour maps, particularly where potential conflicts with neighboring properties may arise. Measurement results provide a sound and defensible basis for permitting, plant expansions, and coordination with regulatory agencies. All findings are documented transparently to support a well-founded assessment of acoustic impacts.

Building-physics assessment of buildings

A focus on building and room acoustics

Within the field of building physics, we analyze the effects of noise and vibration on buildings and structures. Our goal is to understand the interactions between structural systems and dynamic loads and to identify potential issues at an early stage.
These analyses support both the protection of existing buildings and the design of new facilities in industrial environments. The findings are translated into technical recommendations that mitigate impacts and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.

We provide comprehensive consulting services in building and room acoustics, ranging from design-phase support in accordance with HOAI and sound insulation verification pursuant to DIN 4109 to acoustic measurements for baseline surveys, quality assurance, and product development. We are also regularly appointed as court-certified expert witnesses.

For a quiet and comfortable environment

Building acoustics ensures effective noise control in buildings through optimized airborne and structure-borne sound insulation, acoustically engineered façades and building components, and the control of noise from mechanical systems. From residential buildings to specialized facilities such as test rigs, we provide end-to-end acoustic consulting services.

Service overview

From consulting in building and room acoustics to laboratory measurements, product optimization, and the development of special constructions, we ensure code-compliant noise control and optimal acoustics at every project stage.

Reliable results

recise measurements and sound technical analyses ensure compliant noise control and high acoustic quality in new construction, modernization, and renovation projects.

Vibration and building dynamics

Assessment of vibration sources

Vibrations caused by machinery, traffic, or construction activities can lead to perceptible building vibrations and affect structures, equipment, and occupants. KÖTTER Consulting Engineers evaluates vibration impacts on buildings with respect to occupant comfort, functional performance, and potential structural damage, providing a reliable basis for the development of effective mitigation strategies.

Measurement and analysis of vibrations

Using highly sensitive geophones, we measure vibration amplitude, frequency, and propagation, including continuous long-term monitoring where required. Measurements and evaluations are performed in accordance with applicable standards and account for both short-term and long-term effects into account. In many cases vibration behavior is closely linked to dynamic processes in machinery and industrial systems, which are considered as part of an integrated analysis. These detailed assessments form the foundation for engineering solutions that effectively reduce vibration transmission to adjacent structures and the surrounding environments.

Service overview

From the identification and analysis of traffic-, construction-, or process-related vibrations to continuous monitoring and the development of technical protection measures, we provide lasting protection for buildings, infrastructure, and quality of life.
